Xenical and Health

As with any medication, some health conditions may render an individual a poor candidate for using Xenical.
Taking Xenical
There are several health conditions that should be considered prior to a decision to take Xenical. These include:
1) Allergies
Any allergies to foods, preservatives or dyes should be discussed with a doctor. Any past history of allergic reaction to Xenical will likely preclude an individual from taking Xenical.
2) Diet
Maintenance of a low fat, calorie reduced, balanced diet is essential when taking Xenical. No more that 30% of calories should come from fat. As well, daily intake of fat, protein and carbohydrates should be balanced equally over 3 meals a day
while taking Xenical. Lower fat intake while taking Xenical will minimize negative side effects.
3) Pregnancy
Do not take Xenical if pregnant or aiming to become pregnant. The effects of Xenical have not been studied in pregnant women and the potential decrease in the absorption of nutrients can be detrimental to pregnant women. Talk to a doctor about Xenical if you are or plan to become pregnant.
4) Breast Feeding
Discuss breast feeding with a doctor prior to using Xenical. It is possible that Xenical may pass into breast milk, and the effects of Xenical on newborns is unknown.
5) Children and Adolescents
Xenical has only been studied with adult populations. Xenical is not generally recommended for those under the age of 16.
6) Older Adults
Although there is no indication that Xenical is unsafe in older or elderly populations, it's effects on this age group have not yet been studied. Older adults should discuss Xenical with a doctor.
7) Other Medications
Any medications currently being taken should be discussed with a doctor prior to using Xenical. This will avoid negative side effects from the use of Xenical with another medication, or may lead to an adjustment in dosage of Xenical. Discuss
with a doctor if you taking Warfarin, as Xenical may reduce the absorption of vitamin K into the body, causing changes in bleeding times when Xenical is taken at the same time as Warfarin.
8) Other Medical Conditions
All medical conditions should be discussed with a doctor prior to using Xenical. Particularly important when using Xenical are the presence of kidney stones or gallbladder problems. Discuss these conditions and how Xenical can impact them with a doctor.
