Certain side effects can be experienced when taking Meridia. Many of these side effects are not life threatening and most will dissipate after a couple weeks of taking Meridia. However, certain dangerous side effects can happen. Some of these can only be measured through regular visits to a doctor, such as high blood pressure. A doctor will always check heart rate and blood pressure while monitoring a patient taking Meridia.
Check with a doctor is any side effects while taking Meridia persist for longer than two weeks.
Common side effects of Meridia include:
- anxiety
- dryness of mouth
- headache
- irritability or impatience
- constipation
- dizziness
- nervousness
- stuffy nose
- difficulty sleeping
Usually, these side effects disappear within two weeks of taking Meridia. Any that persist should be discussed with a doctor.
Less common side effects of Meridia include:
abdominal pain
back pain
burning, itching, prickling, or tingling of skin
change in sense of taste
diarrhea
drowsiness increase in appetite
increased sweating
increased thirst
indigestion
nausea
unusual warmth or flushing of skin
body ache
fast or irregular heartbeat
increased blood pressure
psychological depression
painful menstruation
swelling of body or of feet and ankles
Rare side effects of Meridia include:
bruising on the body
red spots or patches on skin
convulsions (seizures)
excessive bleeding following injury
severe headache (severe)
mood swings
skin rash
weight gain
